It really can be a bummer to have to shut the blinds and curtains just to get a little privacy, especially if you live in the city. When the weather is great and the sun is shining, all you want to do is open up the windows to enjoy it a little bit. If you’re tired of your heavy curtains blocking out the entire natural light just because you really need the privacy, this project is perfect for you.
Not only does the natural sunlight aid you by increasing your mood, it will also reduce your energy costs simply by using the light that’s already outside. Plus, you will still have the sense of privacy you desire.
Thanks to Anna Belvita, anyone can update their windows with ease simply by applying a little cornstarch paste and sticking the fabric of your choice directly to the window.
To begin, mix two tablespoons of cornstarch together with two tablespoons of water. Mix the two together until you have a paste and pour the contents into 1 ½ cups of boiling water.
Then, stir and you can begin painting the mixture directly onto the window.
Next, apply your pre-cut square of fabric (white lace is an excellent choice) and press it to the window. Apply a second coat of cornstarch paste over the fabric.
With the lacey fabric, there’s no need to smooth out unwanted air bubbles that will get in the way, so after the second coat of paste has dried, your job is complete.
The design allows the sunlight to come in, while still obstructing the view from any peeping neighbors. Plus, it’s beautiful.
As Anna also noted, this is the perfect option for those that may rent and can’t install a more permanent solution as it won’t damage the windows and can be removed easily with a little hot water and a sponge. For more details and photos of Anna’s project, click here.
